29 thg 7, 2012 · Rather than try to quantify the situation, I would simply say they are both widely used. The US Postal service uses STA as the abbreviation for Station, while googling 'Euston Sta' and 'Euston Stn' (for the railway terminus in London) produces significant numbers for each.

Also 'service station', although this might provide some other services apart from just selling petrol. A 'petrol pump' is the physical pump, not the establishment, e.g. 'The filling station has six pumps'.
